Remarks before the New Britain Common Council (October 9, 2024)

Good evening, members of the Common Council. I rise to address the events of October 7th and the significance of the High Holy Days for our Jewish neighbors. As we reflect on these sacred days, it’s concerning that this Council has not yet passed a resolution to acknowledge either.

Historically, this body has set a precedent by engaging in foreign affairs (recently and in years past) and recognizing holidays from all the major Abrahamic religions. However, no such resolutions are on tonight’s agenda. The leadership of this Council does, in fact, have draft resolutions in front of them, yet they have not been considered.

I urge you to act on these drafts and pass a resolution that recognizes these important days. This would demonstrate our city’s commitment to inclusion, unity, and respect for all faiths. Thank you.

Thanks.
