CSCU Interim President-designee Dr. Jane McBride Gates

HARTFORD, CT — This morning at a special Connecticut Board of Regents meeting the Board designated the system’s Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs to be the interim system President starting January 1, 2021.

Earlier this year, outgoing President Mark Ojakian annouced his retirement after being at the healm of the system office since 2015. President Gates will be concurrently serving as Interim President and Provost. Dr. Gates will be the first woman and person of color to oversee the 100,000 student public higher education system in Connecticut.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled that somebody from Western will be sitting behind the President’s desk at Woodland Street. Over the years, I’ve disagreed with many of the Board’s decisions however, the choice of Jane Gates as system president will ensure that the voices of students, faculty, staff, and alumni will be heard at the highest levels of our higher education system.”
