Prideful Reflections: 4 Years of Leading a Connecticut Municipal Pride Group 🏳️‍🌈

It’s been an honor for the last 1500 days to lead New Britain’s LGBTQ+ outreach, as chair of New Britain Pride. We had tough discussions, marched in parades, raised the flag, contributed to changing policy, and collaborated with business and labor. Below you’ll see some of the memories we’ve created from day one to now. Today, I am able to step aside and hold my head high knowing the work we’ve done together has changed and improved lives.

Thank you Mayor Stewart for taking that call 4 years ago outside Stonewall and giving the go head to start this group! Thank you to our countless local partners for your time and support. To our state and federal delegation you’ve given so much time to us - each of you know how much I appreciate you taking the time to show up to our events!

Lastly, to my fellow members of the LGBTQ+ family, I’m still going to speak out and contribute to discussions within our community — I’m going to continue to do what is right- not what is easy. I’m going to challenge our paradigm and push us to expand our horizons. I’m going to stand up for principles. We are not a monolithic community, we are a community that has a variety of viewpoints and sub-groups/cultures and we have to respect our past, to build on their legacy.

This opportunity has been one of professional and personal growth. In the words of Torah — Lech Lecha — it is time for me to go forth and be a blessing.

During our launch night, we had my friend and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman come be our Keynote Speaker. Nancy’s been a strong advocate and ally for the LGBTQ+ for many years.
We marched in Middletown’s Pride Parade — an initiative that we started!
For three years, so far, we’ve raised the flag and have lit up the Beehive Bridge.
Was such an honor to lead a great group of individuals.
We got involved in policy — from the Equality Act to the gay blood ban to education. We let our elected leaders know. where we stood on issues.
The moment after Mayor Stewart gave the go-ahead to start New Britain Pride
Thank you for the memories.
